| Abstract | Diplomski rad pruža sveobuhvatan pregled OTT (engl. Over-the-Top) sustava, uključujući njihovu definiciju, važnost i povijesni razvoj. U početku se objašnjava trenutačno stanje u industriji, s naglaskom na trendove kao što su rast globalnog tržišta i razvoj tehnologija. Detaljno se opisuje tehnička osnova OTT sustava, uključujući arhitekturu i ključne komponente kao što su metode distribucije i prijema sadržaja. Razmatra se tehnološka osnova OTT sustava, s detaljnim objašnjenjem osnovne arhitekture i komponenti kao što su metode distribucije i prijema. Poseban naglasak stavljen je na ključne tehnologije za streaming, uključujući protokole HLS, DASH, RTMP i RTS, koje omogućuju fleksibilno i pouzdano strujanje sadržaja. Dokument istražuje važnost CDN-a (engl. Content Delivery Network), objašnjavajući kako CDN-ovi djeluju, uključujući principe rada poput izvornih poslužitelja, rubnog predmemoriranja i DNS poslužitelja, te ističe njihove prednosti u isporuci OTT sadržaja. Razmatraju se OTT platforme i usluge te izazovi s kojima se suočavaju, kao što su tehnički problemi (latencija, skalabilnost i kvaliteta usluge), te sigurnosni izazovi kao što su enkripcija i DRM (Digital Rights Management). Također se istražuje utjecaj OTT sustava na širi medijski ekosustav, uspoređujući ih s IPTV sustavima i naglašavajući ključne razlike poput unicast i multicast modela prijenosa. Pokriven je proces postavljanja sadržaja na OTT platforme, uključujući transkodiranje, paketiziranje, obradu, distribuciju, pohranu podataka te konfiguriranje i upravljanje uslugama, uz detaljno objašnjenje kako se vrši nadzor usluga koristeći alate kao što su Grafana, Agama, Conviva i Elasticsearch. U zaključku se raspravlja o budućnosti OTT sustava, predviđajući daljnje tehnološke inovacije i rast tržišta, te se zaključuje da će OTT nastaviti igrati ključnu ulogu u transformaciji medijskog krajolika. Sve u svemu, diplomski rad ističe kako će OTT sustavi, uz pomoć novih tehnologija i sve veće prilagodljivosti tržištu, nastaviti mijenjati način na koji konzumiramo sadržaj, uz prilagodbu korisničkim preferencijama i potrebama, uz istovremeno rješavanje izazova skalabilnosti, sigurnosti i kvalitete usluga. Kroz stalnu inovaciju i razvoj, OTT sustavi su postavljeni da budu vodeći u budućnosti digitalne distribucije medijskog sadržaja. |
| Abstract (english) | The thesis provides a comprehensive overview of Over-the-Top (OTT) systems, including their definition, importance, and historical development. It begins by explaining the current state of the industry, focusing on trends such as the global market growth and technological advancements. It details the technical foundation of OTT systems, including architecture and key components such as content distribution and reception methods. The technological foundation of OTT systems is examined in detail, with a focus on core architecture and components such as distribution and reception methods. Special emphasis is placed on key streaming technologies, including protocols like HLS, DASH, RTMP, and RTS, which enable flexible and reliable content streaming. The document explores the importance of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), explaining how CDNs operate, including principles such as origin servers, edge caching, and DNS servers, and highlights their advantages in delivering OTT content. OTT platforms and services are discussed along with the challenges they face, such as technical issues (latency, scalability, and quality of service) and security challenges like encryption and Digital Rights Management (DRM). The impact of OTT systems on the broader media ecosystem is also investigated, comparing them with IPTV systems and emphasizing key differences such as unicast and multicast transmission models. The process of setting up content on OTT platforms is covered, including transcoding, packaging, processing, distribution, data storage, and configuring and managing services, with detailed explanations of how service monitoring is performed using tools like Grafana, Agama, Conviva, and Elasticsearch. All in all, the thesis points out that OTT systems, with the help of new technologies and increasing adaptability to the market, will continue to change the way we consume content, while adapting to user preferences and needs, while solving the challenges of scalability, security and quality of service.
