This final paper arises from the key importance of tourist attractions for the development of tourism in various destinations. Tourist attractions and tourism resources, in general, often do not receive enough attention, with them frequently being grouped under the same concept. The main aim of this paper is to provide a deeper insight into their significance in attracting tourists and the development of tourist areas. The paper provides an overview of the tourist attraction base and conceptually defines general tourism terms such as tourism and tourist destination. It explains the role and significance of UNESCO in the world and attempts to confirm the connection between the UNESCO World Heritage designation and the attractiveness of a tourist area through a limited example of analyzed cities and national parks. Based on the conducted analyses, it is possible to draw a clear conclusion that the UNESCO World Heritage designation significantly enhances the appeal of a tourist destination and has a direct impact on achieving better results in tourism.
