Entrepreneurship as we know it today plays a significant role in the economy and society of almost every country. Small and medium-sized enterprises stand out in particular as the main drivers of employment and economic development in the European Union. According to EU data, small and medium enterprises make up 99.7% of the total share of enterprises, which makes them a priority for the development of the entire economy. Most domestic entrepreneurs have recognized the opportunity and realized the importance of such companies in crisis situations, and are increasingly starting their own businesses by using natural resources. The purpose of this paper is to point out the role and importance of small and medium enterprises in the EU and Croatia and which documents are used to encourage them. Also, it is interesting to mention founding programs and the sources of funds used in the course of business. IT is well known that the whole world is currently facing a Covid- 19 crisis, so emphasis was placed on how companies adapt to new circumstances in order to be able to get the maximum results from their business.
