In order to be able to describe the stock market in Croatia, it is necessary to define the term stock as an essential element of the stock market. It also describes the progress of stocks along with the progress of the whole stock market in Croatia. Market development in Croatia began relatively early, somewhen in 1907, however back then it was not yet known as Zagreb Stock Exchange as it is today. At that time, it was known as 'Section for Goods and Values', which was founded by Croatian citizens of the time who wanted to become independent. In 1918 it was re-established under the name 'Zagreb Stock Exchange for Goods and Values'. Finally, in 1990, the Agreement on the Foundation of the Croatian Capital Market was signed. Two years after its establishment, the first securities were listed, namely the company Elcon d.d. from Zlatar Bistrice. From this brief overview of the development of the Croatian stock market, it can be said that the history of the Zagreb Stock Exchange itself was changeable and unstable but managed to get on the "right track". The Croatian stock market that is known today is recognizable in the world, and world-famous shares are traded on it, such as shares of Podravka d.d., Ad plastik d.d., Zagrebačka banka d.d. and many more.
