Nowadays, tourism has become one of the global phenomena and its importance in the Republic of Croatia especially in the context of its economic contribution is extremely high. The tourist market is significantly different from the market goods and the primary subjects that show up on the tourist market are tourist supply and tourist demand. This paper conceptually determines tourism demand and analyses achieved tourist traffic, on the case of the Split-Dalmatia County which is expressed by the number of achieved tourist arrivals and overnight stays. The empirical analysis is focused on the structure of tourist demand depending on tourist’s country of origin, desires for particular destinations in the Split-Dalmatia County and the type of accommodation capacity in which tourist most often stay. Although the Split-Dalmatia County reaches significant part in the total tourist traffic of the Republic of Croatia it is necessary to make further efforts in 2 order to more equally distribute the tourist traffic by territories and time in the Split-Dalmatia County.
